tHERE FOR OUR MEMBERS. THERE FOR OUR COMMUNITIES
Who are we?
SIMA is a National Branch within Unite the Union - Britain's largest union with over 1.4 million members. We represent managers, professionals, technical and admin roles within the manufacturing sector. SIMA have been representing its membership for almost 50 years and continues to adapt to the challenges our members experience in a 21st Century Workplace.
How do we operate?
SIMA is organised by region to allow full networking of its lay representatives. Those active in the organisation are able to fully grasp the national picture, and have access to a pooled source of advice; from each other, and from Unite.
National Committee
SIMA is governed by its elected representatives to a National Committe. The committee members meet on a quarterly basis to discuss ongoing issues for its membership. It gives an opportunity for sharing & learning among other committee members. The committee includes National Officer representation from Unite the Union which allows direct communication and support where required.
Health & Safety Committee
The Health & Safety committee is a forum for members to gather and discuss any significant incidents and accidents that its membership maybe exposed to in their working lives. The committee also discuss any relevant upcoming legislation, where necessary concerns will be taken back to employers for them to take action.
Local Area Branches
SIMA currently consists of four geographical branches - Northern, Midland, Sheffield and Wales. Each branch may have members from several employers (Centre's) where local issues are discussed. Each branch elect representatives to attend H&S and National Committees.
SIMA Conference
Every three years SIMA holds its conference where it elects officers to honarary positions, debates motions put forward by its membership and reflects the events and challenges since the previous conference.
